Honor Franklin

Honor Franklin Myofunctional & Speech Clinic
Dr. Honor Franklin has specialized in the evaluation and treatment of Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders in children, adolescents and adults since 1977. In that time, she has provided help for a range of issues including resting lip and tongue posture, an incorrect swallowing pattern (known as “tongue thrust”), prolonged non-nutritive sucking habits and related articulation (speech) disorders.
Not only has Dr. Franklin chosen to specialize in Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders for over 40 years but she holds the distinction of being a Certified Orofacial Myologist since 1991, by the International Association of Orofacial Myology (IAOM) an honor held by a small percentage of professionals practicing orofacial myofunctional therapy. In fact, she is the only Certified Orofacial Myologist in Dallas and is only one of a few in the state of Texas.
Every patient’s case is well documented through intraoral photographs, measurements, videotaping and written reports. She personally performs all evaluations and therapy. Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy requires a thorough understanding of orofacial and dental development as well as speech and through her 40 plus years of specializing in this field, she has the much needed experience and expertise to provide optimal long term results.
In addition to this, as a practicing Speech-Language Pathologist, Dr. Franklin maintains Licensure by the State of Texas and a Certificate of Clinical Competence awarded by the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) and is a seven-time recipient of ASHA’s Award for Continuing Education (ACE).
Besides having a busy private practice, Dr. Franklin lectures to orthodontic residents at the Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry, educating them about orofacial myofunctional disorders. She also lectures at numerous dental study groups of maxillofacial surgeons, orthodontists, pediatric dentists, dental hygienists, and general dentists, and she mentors several IAOM members.
Dr. Franklin also co-authored with Dr. Robert Mason, D.D.S., Ph.D., Emeritus Professor of Surgery and Previous Chief of Orthodontics at Duke University Medical Center, an invited editorial for the journal Otolaryngology, entitled, “Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders and Otolaryngologists”, in October, 2014 and a paper entitled,”Position Statement of the International Association of Orofacial Myology Regarding: Appliance Use for Oral Habit Patterns,” International Journal of Orofacial Myology, 2009, Vol 35.
