Robert M. Mason B.A.; M.S.; Ph.D.; D.M.D.; Certificate in Orthodontics

Dr. Bob Mason is the only dual-trained doctoral-level speech-language pathologist and orthodontist in North America. He received his doctoral degree in speech pathology from The University of Illinois and spent 10 years as a university professor in speech pathology at Miami University (Ohio), The University of Tennessee, and The University of Kentucky. Dr. Bob received his dental degree from The University of Kentucky, and his orthodontic training at The University of North Carolina. Dr. Mason spent 30 years as an orthodontist at Duke University Medical Center where he was Professor and Chief of Orthodontics. Dr. Bob is one of few with specialty trained as a craniofacial orthodontist. Dr. Bob retired from Duke University Medical Center in 2009 and continues as Emeritus Professor of Surgery at Duke. Dr. Bob has published more than 100 professional articles and book chapters and is co-author of the leading world-wide text in orofacial myology, with Dr. Marvin Hanson. Dr. Mason is a Fellow in ASHA and is a Past President of the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association.
