Katelyn Spencer CCC-SLP

As a speech-language pathologist, Katelyn has worked in various settings: public education, private practice, home health, in-patient, and outpatient rehab for children and adults. She has evaluated and treated a broad range of speech and language disorders, including speech sound disorders, apraxia of speech, feeding, swallowing, expressive, receptive, and social language disorders, stuttering, voice, and myofunctional disorders. She has worked with special populations such as individuals with down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, hearing impairments, ADHD, TBI, epilepsy disorders, hydrocephalus, and more.

She is the recipient of the ASHA ACE Award for excellence in Continuing Education. Areas of intense study include sensory-motor feeding issues, orofacial myology, and swallowing. She has specific training for feeding using the CAN-EAT approach and Lori Overland Feeding Therapy. She has experience with Beckman Oral Motor and the S.O.S. Feeding approach. She is a Level 1 Talk Tools Therapist seeking her Level 2 certification. She is trained in PROMPT (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets), which focuses on the motor movement for forming sounds into words. She has also taken coursework through the International Association of Oromyofunctional Therapy (IAOM), The Breathe Institute with Sarah Hornsby, and the Orofacial Myology Training for Sandra Holtzman (QOM certification track) to address myofunctional disorders.

Katelyn is also trained in Augmentative and Alternative Communication devices (AAC) such as switches, Dynavox, Proloquo2Go app on the iPad, and the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS). She is currently enrolled in the Lingraphica Certification Program whereby AAC devices are utilized for those patients with aphasia and other communication disorders.

Katelyn has a passion for both children and adults reaching their full potential in life, not only with their speech and language but also with their health. Her coordinated efforts with dentists, orthodontists, and ENTs around the DFW area are to holistically address the needs of patients at any age.
