Kristie Gatto 

The Speech and Language Connection
Kristie graduated from the University of Houston with a Master of Arts in Communication Disorders. Kristie’s experience includes working in public schools, private schools, private practice, rehabilitation hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, early childhood intervention sites, pediatric/children’s hospital, and audiology clinics. She has performed diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to orofacial myology, pediatric (toddler/child) feeding aversion, apraxia, disorders related to cleft lip and palate, receptive language disorders, expressive language disorders, aural rehabilitation with an emphasis in intervention fluency, dysphasia, and pragmatic language disorders in infants, pre-school children, school-aged children, and adults
In addition to her work as a Speech-Language Pathologist, Kristie has served on committees regarding eligibility for school-aged students for Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, was previously a counselor for sexually assaulted children and adults, and worked for the Alzheimer’s Association/Greater Houston Chapter, and The Parish School.

For the past ten years, Kristie has focused her clinical skills on treating younger clients with issues in feeding, dysphagia, deglutition, oral sensory aversion, orofacial myology, swallowing related disorders, as well as articulation, phonological processing, apraxia, early childhood intervention, and semantic language issues among pre-school aged children. She provides evaluations, therapeutic intervention, and is an instructor in feeding disorders and orofacial myofunctional disorders. Additionally, Kristie is the author of three books, Understanding the Orofacial Complex: the evolution of dysfunction; Understanding the Orofacial Complex: Muscle Manual; and, Sam, the Super Chewer Eats. Kristie a Certified Orofacial Myologist (COM®) in the city of Houston. She is certified with the International Association of Orofacial Myology (IAOM), holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence with the American Speech, Language, and Hearing Association (ASHA), and is a member of the Texas Speech, Language, and Hearing Association (TSHA). She was the 2016 Convention Chair of the IAOM and has been on the Convention Planning Committee for the 2011 & 2013 IAOM National Conventions, and previously served as Vice President of Membership in the Houston Association for Communication Disorders (HACD). Currently, Kristie serves as the President of the IAOM, BOD member for the American Academy of Private Practitioners in Speech Pathology and Audiology, and a member of the Community Advisory Board for the University of Houston.
