MyoCare: Orofacial Myology
A true Texan by birth and by choice, I was born in Amarillo, TX, and reared in New Mexico. I eventually made it back to Texas where I graduated Valedictorian from Bastrop High School in 1987. The first degree I earned was in Marketing from Texas State University. I then worked for Dell Computer Corporation for five years. I later earned my second degree in Dental Hygiene from Austin Community College, and now I have been practicing as a Registered Dental Hygienist for 13 years.
While working as a hygienist, I began to look into a holistic way of seeing the world including proper diet, healing crystals, grounding techniques, and the means by which we heal our bodies. Breath is everything, and if a person cannot breath properly through the nose, there will be issues with sleep and mental health. The muscles of the oral cavity and face are often out of alignment; improper swallowing will affect the ability to eat. Improper tongue placement will interfere with breathing and speaking. Proper diagnosis and therapy through myotherapy may resolve these issues to the benefit of the patient.
I received my training from the International Association of Orofacial Myology (IAOM), and I am preparing for IAOM certification. I have studied Buteyko Breathing through the Buteyko Institute. I am a member of the Airway Circle and the Myofunctional Therapists of Texas. I will continue to practice as a dental hygienist, but I look forward to helping you to enjoy better health through myofacial therapy!
